2 weeks in New York city

For everyone following us on Instagram (@goldenconnexion), we know that you noticed our two trips to New York City. We already been to the Big Apple four years ago but we didn’t had the chance to visit it. Let us tell you how happy we were to have the opportunity to get back.

In this article, we are going to sum up in a few points all the places we visited.

Let’s go

We bought two CityPass in order to be able to see the main places of New York City. This a good deal because the pass is cheaper than paying for each attraction individually and last 9 days. The pass give access to those attractions :

• Empire State Building Observatory,
• American Museum of Natural History,
• Metropolitan Museum of Art,
• Guggenheim Museum OR Top of the Rock,
• Ferry Statue of Liberty OR Circle Line cruise,
• 9/11 Memorial museum OR Intrepid Sea-Air-Space museum

Unvoidable places to visit

Brooklyn Bridge : Unbelievable ! If you have time, you really should get on the bridge because seeing it from far and to be on  is absolutely different. In day light, you can take beautiful pictures and once the night fall, there is a surprising spectacle waiting for you.

Statue of Liberty : She’s not that tall in real life. Really not like in movies. This was a disappointment lol.

Ellis Island : Interesting Immigration museum

Empire State Building : The sight is breathtaking from the last floor.. Should really not miss it !

Rockfeller Center : A chic shopping center, really cute! With a view from Top of the Rock not that bad. Nevertheless if you have to choose, choose Empire States Building.

Grand central terminal : the famous station with a distinctive architecture

Central Park : a nice and huge urban park in Manhattan. The most famous.

Times Square : major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center and neighborhood in the Midtown Manhattan section of New York. Day and night.

Museums and shows

American Museum of Natural History : WOW, it really was something, it is huge, plan at least half a day to a day to see eveything. This a vast museum that redraws the Histoire since its  beginning !

9/11 Memorial : The museum is extremely sad, we can feel everything that can be felt while visiting… This something to do like all the museums in New York City. There is plenty things to see and stories to listen to. Sincerely, for those who were already in age to understand what happened in 2001, this memorial will give goosebumps. Furthermore, you can gather yourself/reflect in front of the two enormous fountains on which are carved the names of those who died on this day.

The Lion King musical: We went to see the Lion King Musical in Broadway, Time Square. This was crazy. The music, the outfits are incredible. The directing is on point. Without even mentionning actors and dansers that were very talented. It was simply magical. We recommand it 10 000% if you have the chance to get to NYC.

Restaurants & Bars

• Shake Shack : So gooood, omg ! It didn’t fail us

• Famous Amadeus Pizza : Gigantesque pizza slices, good and affordable

• Barilla Restaurant : just delicious (pizza, lasagnas, pastas mmm) with a similar decoration to Vapiano (or maybe a bit more chic)

• Negril Village : really good jamaican restaurant, it’s lively at night !

• Mr Purple : bar with a rooftop. Incredible wiew and good music

• Schnippers : good burgers and chicken but nothing extra

• Starbucks : Should we still introduce it ! On the other hand, the menu is really different from what we are used to in France, especially regarding bakeries and sandwiches.

• Food truck: 2$ hot dogs are not that bad in case if you are a bit hungry

• Chipotle : established in France, we couldn’t resist to mexican burritos, delightful !

Shopping

Century 21 : Oh lalala ! There are only good deals in this place ! Luxury items at surprising affordable prices ! Nevertheless, you need to have some patience because Americans are not familiar with merchandising haha !

Footlocker : Prices are almost equal to what we see in France. But there is a lot more range regarding sneakers. Nevertheless, there were some sneakers on sale !

Champs Sport : Crazy sales on items all year long ! This is crazy  ! You don’t even know where to look ! Advice : plan a small shopping budget if you don’t wanna come home frustrated.

M&M : What an universe ! Even if you buy nothing, go see it ! This is cute, and you have a view on Time Square.

Nike : One of the biggest store in the world (6 floors)

Victoria Secret : the brand of underwear we no longer need to introduce

Airbnb housing

Regarding housing in New-York, we went for Airbnb appartments.

All of them were in Brooklyn district.

For those who don’t know, New-York is quite an expensive city.

Indeed, most of the landlords offer several bedrooms in one same appartment/house with a bathroom to share with other travelers.

So, read carefully the description if you are looking for a full appartment at your disposal or even a private bathroom. There is so much people that published implicits descriptions about their premises.

To conclude, we advice you to plan your housing ahead to have enough choice. Eh yes the best hounsings in New-York City, which have the best quality/price ratio are booked really quickly.
